November 2008 Style JournalContemplation
The past few months of autumn have been spent more in contemplation and planning than creating. Along with which we have had the most family members visit in a single year! But it is important to keep your links alive in all aspects - be it business, family or the community. When we went to Sunil's UF Medical School reunion, I loved hearing stories of how his classmates had spent their years since college. Some took lengthy vacations, some got married, others pursued their passions at work...all of which made for unique lifestyles. For me, these months have helped me plan our business better and where we want to be in the next year and onwards. I am guessing most artists take a creative break like this to focus on the vision and goals of their work. This is the main reason you haven't seen our "monthly" newsletter since August. I have missed writing and it
feels great to be back with news and stories...much a like a college reunion.
In the Media
We were excited to be featured in two stellar magazines that serve the both sides of the coast!
Jacksonville Magazine Bridal Guide Fall 2008
We were honored to be featured in the fall edition of Jacksonville Magazine's Bridal Guide which features nearly everything a bride could need when planning one of life's truly special occasions. Along with wedding stories, a detailed reception sites chart, professional beauty tips for the big day and highlights of the latest trends in nuptials, Sunisha Designs was featured in an article titled "Local Designer transforms something old into something new". Taking a gorgeaous wedding gown that dates back to 1964 and turning it into multiple items that can be cherished and used forever was no easy task, but when you read the details, you may be inspired to bring your treasured garments to us to make something special. See the article on page 34 here.
Orange Coast Magazine October 2008
Orange Coast Magazine, in partnership with The Dream Guild of the Orange County Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, hosted an inaugural OC Look Party. Celebrating the people who define Orange County’s signature style, the event was held on July 23rd in Dana Point, CA. VIP's attending the event received a very special gift bag full of unique items which included our custom made Mini Vintage Sari Totes. Sunisha Designs was asked to create 55 of these mini totes and received rave reviews for their variation in vintage fabrics and style. To visit Orange Coast magazine, click here. Testimonial of the Month
"I had attended a Holiday Bazaar at a friend's house at the beach where Manisha was selling her handbags and notecards. My daughter Rachel and I couldn't decide which one to get! I immediately liked the unique designs and quality construction of each handbag. Rachel had about three on her arm that she just couldn't put down. She finally decided on a Hello Kitty tote bag that she could use for school. Although the school forbids tote bags as she later found out, she is enjoying 'toting' it around town."

The Mom-treprenuer Corner
Between my ever-busy mommyhood days of Saloni turning three in September and Sohan turning six months old a few days ago, I took time to sort through a series of files that hadn't seen the light of day in a long time. Of my favorites, two are titled "Business 101" and "Business Artists 101". In them are articles, clippings and notes of businesses and people that I admire and want to learn from in every way possible. One of the clippings was an article written by Robert David Smith. It was a glimpse into his years between high school (1996) and 2006. The advice he gave to students was this: "Being true to yourself is your highest duty and in the end, your optimal path. Throughout life, there are temptations and pressures to join with, ratify, and/or pretend many things that simply are not consonant with the truth of yourself. Let
these things pass. There will be moments when you feel as if you are 'missing out'. But in the end, you will arrive where you are meant to be, and you will know it is truly you who are there, and not some construct you made to accomodate everyone else's opinion of you. Furthermore, you will have had a true and lasting effect on the world around you by your example." The first words that came to me were "Wow!". What a fantastic piece of advice that can be applied to any age group, because as we know some of us know exactly what we are doing and where we are headed and some of us are still meandering the waters of self-discovery. Whichever route you are on, I hope this excerpt inspires you in some way so that you celebrate that moment of arrival.
On A Personal Note
The economy. Who isn't talking about it? Well, I thought I'd share one of my favorite stories about saving money for something special. When we moved back to California after enjoying five years in Mumbai, India, my first job was at World Savings Bank in Irvine, CA. I was a P/T teller and was attending Irvine Valley college to earn credits towards my bachelors at UCI. I loved having the cute litle savings book where I recorded all my weekly earnings. I had yet to enter the world of credit cards, so this was my treasured piece of monetary identity. On one of my shopping jaunts, I spotted the most beautiful watch, a Swiss Army watch with a beauitul brown leather strap. It was classic and simple. But the only problem was the price - $250! I was only 20 years old and had never spent that kind of money on a single item. I wanted to make saving for this special. So I created an
envelope and everytime I had a dollar, I put it in there. Whenever I got rebate checks, I put that money in there. It took me six months to save $250 and when I went to buy it, I felt so proud to have earned this beautiful watch. I still wear it today, although I have had to change the strap several times from wear and tear and there are a few scratches on it. But if ever I have coveted anything materialistic, it is this watch for what it reminds me of, how it taught me to save and how it everyday reminds me of the precious time we are given in our lives.
We would love to see you at our Home Studio & Boutique. Morning, evening, weekend or daytime appointments are welcome. Coffee, tea and something sweet are always on the house.
Sincerely,
