Happy Earth Day!
Celebrating with a Passion for Fashion
Happy Earth Day to all of you readers! I know you've heard the old bit, "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". So, we're changing it to " Refuse, Relate and Upcycle". What does it mean?
Refuse: Do you really need another gadget for the kitchen? Or another thingamaging for your mantel? By refusing to buy more, we create less waste to begin with. It's easy to say, "Well, if I don't like it later, I'll just give it to someone." Let's stop the waste of more and more stuff in our homes...just refuse it!
Relate: What you buy is related to more than just your wallet. Ever heard of the 3/50 project? For every $100 you spend in a locally-owned, not national chain store, $68 goes back into the community by way of taxes, payroll and other expenditures. Think about what you buy. We are inundated with products from abroad that no doubt cost cheaper but ultimately affect our local economy. So next time, ask yourself, how does my purchase relate to my town?
Upcycle: Don't be embarrased to admit you have a closet of old ACDC or Def Leppard t-shirts. They make great tote bags! We love that our customers have brought in everything from inherited wedding gowns to their mom's dresses to concert t-shirts and jerseys. They let us do the magic as we transform them into makeup bags, clutch purses, weekend totes and so much more. One customer even brought in her first home's shower curtain and had us make it into a diaper bag. You see, we can upcycle anything! And besides, do you really want to throw away a sentimental item when you can instead use it for a greater good?
In the Media
We are thrilled to have been featured in several media outlets from the radio to the TV and in the newspaper. If you missed any of it, visit our press page or our Facebook page for the latest!
Eco Boutique of the Month
Located near the intersection of Kernan and Beach Blvd. is the newly expanded Little Bits Consignment Shop. I just visited them yesterday and was so impressed with their inventory of items. From clothes to shoes, from toys to bedding, and from strollers to books...they have it all! What a great way to save things from the landfill and offer gently used items at a fraction of the original cost. And oh, they even have stylish maternity clothing! Visit their
Facebook page to learn more about upcoming events and specials.
