May Style Journal

Rainy Days

Last week started out with a constant pitter patter of rain on our windows and most everywhere around town. For some, this weather conjures up the perfect setting up for a good book and a blanket. For me, it stirs up the perfect environment for creativity. Dusting off my scrapbooks of ideas made me realize that I've gathered plenty of great product ideas if I just had more time to apply them! But thankfully, our talented team of seamstresses and creative coordinators make the impossible, possible.

Many of you loved the eco-chic ideas we offered last month, so we can't wait to show you what new goodies we've designed for Summer. Stay tuned!

Spring Fashion

April had us on two exciting runways. First, we were on the scene at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Bag Ladies Luncheon at the Sawgrass Marriot. We parterned with Peggy of Petunia Patch and coordinated our handbags with her south Florida style clothing. Taking style a step further, we were asked to designed two tote bags that could be purchased to benefit this organization and we were happy to take on the challenge. For each tote purchase, Sunisha Designs will donate $50 back to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You can purchase these totes online or at our home boutique.

On that same day, we sauntered the stage while waves crashed in the back at Jacksonville Magazine's Cover Model Fashion Show. With various boutiques featured from all around town, it was quite a task matching all of the trendy outfits with our handbags, but we pulled it off and the results were fabulous.

Testimonial of the Month

I was thrilled with what Manisha did for me with my wedding dress. I have been married for over 20 years and I always wanted to do something with my wedding dress for my daughter. I first saw her on WJXT's The Morning Show and she had done this creative design with an old wedding dress. She made handbags, garter belts and other things you use for a wedding. It was a great idea to pass along something that held such memories.

Mine turned out beautiful. She made various sized handbags, a garter belt and small gift bags for the bridesmaids. My favorite is the gorgeous baby blanket she made out of the train of my dress. I was impressed with her craftsmanship of everything--the detail is wonderful and although she is known for her one-of-a-kind handbags, she is creative with whatever needs you have.

Thank you Manisha--you are the best!

The Mom-treprenuer Corner

As parents, we are forever focused on how best to raise our children. But turn the tables and you will be amazed at how much they teach us. Here's my list of a few of the great things our kids have taught us:

  • Patience. It's okay if it takes ten full minutes to put your jacket on. It's okay if you want to declare all the colors on your socks before you put them on. Slowing down the "hurry up" and "let's go!" tone of the morning makes for a very pleasant day.
  • Perserverance. In this age of quick fixes, handymen on call and internet shopping, people have forgotten to use their own muscle and mind to accomplish things. Hang around your kids and they will find a solution to any dilemma simply by using their imagination. And time is of no limitation, for they will try and try again. When have you done that lately?
  • Savings. Of course recent economics have us all thinking about saving money. And as parents, we are quick to think that having kids cost money, when in fact, they also save us quite a many bucks. Give them fresh air, clean clothes and a good meal and they are good to go. My daughter has stopped me many times by saying, "Mummy, you already have t-shirts in your closet, why are you looking for more?" And it's almost a blessing when they get cranky in the store - the helpful push that you can leave now and save for later.
  • Healthy habits. Saloni has gotten me into eating carrots, brushing my teeth at night and buying more fruit among other things. She's quick to tell me if my skin is icky and if I remembered to wash it before sleeping! You've got to love children's honesty.
  • Being Goofy. I've always been a nut - in my highschool yearbook, there were more comments on how funny or wierd I was than popular or cute. But I love that quality and having kids really brings it out. We have daily ticklefests and jumping contests and even race each other in restaurants and public spaces because well, why not? I think being in touch with your goofy side, no matter what age you are, keeps you young (no Botox required).
  • And oh, toes really do taste good if you can reach them.

On A Personal Note

Laughing, playing, crawling, stumbling, smiling, learning, grasping, hearing, climbing, reaching, grabbing, pushing, feeling, hugging, cuddling, playing...here's to Sohan. Our little guy with the giant smile who turned one on the 13th. He's now taking his first set of many steps and loves climbing our staircase at 50 miles an hour! While Saloni has always been our Vice President of Public Relations, I think he deserves the title CEO of Smiles.
